Melbourne Thadou Baptist Church Provides Aid to Manipur Attack Victims

Kohima: The Melbourne Thadou Baptist Church has distributed financial assistance to the families affected by the May 13, 2026, attack in Manipur. The violence resulted in the deaths of three Thadou Baptist Association India leaders, specifically President Rev Dr Vumthang Sitlhou, Finance Secretary Rev Kaigoulun Lhouvum, and Pastor Paogoulun Sitlhou.

Five others sustained injuries during the incident, including Executive Secretary Rev S M Haopu, Rev Hekai Simte, Rev Kaikhothang Singsit, and two drivers, Thangtinlen Sitlhou and Goumang Lhouvum. The church provided Rs 20,000 to each of the bereaved families and Rs 5,600 to each of the survivors.

Representatives from the Thadou Inpi Manipur and the Thadou Students' Association facilitated the distribution of funds. These groups also offered prayers and comfort to the affected families. The church acknowledged that the tragedy significantly impacted the broader community.

The investigation into the attack is now under the authority of the National Investigation Agency. While the victims' families have practiced forgiveness based on their faith, the church emphasized the necessity of legal accountability. The institution stated, "there remains a call for due legal process to ensure those responsible are brought to justice and similar incidents are prevented in the future."

Church leaders urged members and the wider public to continue praying for peace, healing, and communal harmony throughout Manipur. They also thanked the local organizations that assisted in the relief efforts.
