Meghalaya to Replace Dilapidated Vellore Guest House

Shillong: The Meghalaya government is planning a new building in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. The current state guest house is falling apart. GAD Minister Sosthenes Sohtun inspected the site Monday and confirmed the facility is in bad shape. It cannot hold up much longer.

Construction plans aim to increase capacity beyond the current 13 rooms. The state will ask for further government assistance to fund the project. Starting next month, officials must rent a temporary guest house to host patients traveling to CMC Vellore for medical treatment.

Sohtun met with patients during his visit. Despite the building's decay, they praised the existing service. "The department will seek the assistance of the government in constructing the new Meghalaya House building," the minister said.

Staff currently provide free transport for patients and their families between the house and the hospital. Demand is climbing fast. Last year, 212 patients from Meghalaya made the trip for medical care.
