Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma confirmed the state will release the Umbrella Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe students on August 27. The payout covers 96,000 students. The total injection of funds amounts to approximately Rs 93 crore. It is a massive payday for local youth.
This payment accounts for 40 percent of the total scholarship funds earmarked for the state. Sangma addressed the public via an Instagram video on August 25 to announce the news. He noted, "96,000 plus students will be receiving approximately 93 crores of scholarship," while offering his best wishes to the recipients.
The state government is currently lobbying the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs for the outstanding 60 percent of the funding. Officials expect to secure the remaining balance from the Centre soon.
