Shillong: Meghalaya Trinamool Congress leaders are divided over the chaos hitting the party in West Bengal. State president Charles Pyngrope and parliamentary party leader Mukul M. Sangma hold opposing views on the trouble. The two men see things differently. Their disagreement fuels fresh uncertainty for the party in the state.
Pyngrope claims the Bengal turmoil has no immediate impact on Meghalaya. He insists the state unit has received no word from any rebel factions. It is business as usual for now. The party keeps working while waiting for clear instructions from Kolkata. Pyngrope also shot down rumors of MLAs jumping to the BJP. He spoke with all four legislators, and they promised to stay.
Sangma takes a darker view of the situation. He says the national struggle will clearly hit local operations. He described the current state of national politics as “abnormal” and unprecedented, noting that developments in one state create ripple effects across others.
The state unit already held meetings to review the situation. They remain in contact with top leaders in Kolkata to find out where they stand. Pyngrope remains non-committal about his own plans for the 2028 elections. He says he will wait to hear what his supporters want before making any big moves.
