Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma promised a drug-free state while marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. He called for a total community effort to dismantle criminal networks. The state needs everyone on board.
Sangma addressed the crowd at a Shillong event attended by government officials, police, and community leaders. He acknowledged the hard work of local organizations. “We are here to tell all of you just two things: number one, we are here to thank you for what you are doing, and number two, we are here to support you in whatever way possible, and also we want to listen from you.”
Officials used lessons from a study visit to Colombia to launch the Center for Evolution. This new 25-bed facility operates at the Reid Chest Provincial Hospital. The government also opened the Recovery Track Portal to monitor patients and coordinate care. They want better data.
Social Welfare Adviser Paul Lyngdoh pushed for better cooperation between departments. He suggested steering youth toward sports and music to keep them off drugs. Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Aditya Goenka argued for more intelligence-led policing to stop traffickers.
The Chief Minister handed out financial aid to groups including the Achik Welfare Society and the Lam'ti Foundation. He also signed an agreement with SEWA Inland to run a new rehab center in Tura. Leaders closed the event by honoring recovering addicts and reaffirming their pledge to clean up the state.
