Meghalaya School Association Demands Meeting with CM Sangma

Shillong: The Meghalaya Schools Welfare Development Association-Central Body wants a meeting with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. They have one month to get it done. The group needs an audience before Teachers’ Day to iron out a six-point list of demands hurting schools, staff, and students.

Leaders met Saturday at the Khasi National Dorbar Hall to set the agenda. They say the Meghalaya School Performance Grading Index shows where schools fail, but only the government can fix the systemic rot. Association president Hamarbamut Marbaniang wants to work with the administration. He said, "Dialogue remains the most effective way to address these challenges."

The group demands Grant-in-Aid for secondary and higher secondary schools left high and dry without cash for years. They also flagged 1,544 SSA non-NOC primary schools in the Khasi-Jaintia region plus another 110 in Garo Hills. These schools currently run without proper government backing.

Infrastructure is falling apart. They want fast upgrades for science labs, sports gear, libraries, and tech tools. They also need more teachers and staff hired immediately. The association expects the state to fix issues for teachers who finished D.El.Ed through the National Institute of Open Schooling. They also called for better handling of central funds like PM-POSHAN, the Students’ Uniform Grant, and the Composite School Grant. Marbaniang insists that money spent on classrooms is money spent on the future of the state.
