Shillong: Meghalaya’s Chief Electoral Officer B.D.R. Tiwari published the 2026 draft electoral rolls on August 5. The state-wide release follows an intense house-to-house verification drive. Total registered voters now sit at 21,69,243. This is down from the initial enumeration count of 23,49,645.

Officials removed 1,80,402 electors from the draft. These individuals fell into the Absent, Shifted, Deceased, and Duplicate categories. The breakdown includes 81,490 deceased, 45,011 untraceable or absent, 42,532 permanently shifted, 6,701 duplicates, and 4,668 who refused forms. The draft includes 10,53,039 men, 11,16,199 women, and five third-gender voters.

Verification remains ongoing. Officials placed 2,22,786 voters into a No Mapping category because their records could not link to the 2005 database. These people remain on the rolls for now. "These voters have not been deleted from the electoral roll and that each case will undergo detailed verification during the notice phase and disposal of claims and objections in accordance with the Representation of the People Act, 1950, the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 and the Election Commission’s instructions," the CEO office stated.

District Election Officers handed physical copies to political parties. These parties received one hard copy with photos and one soft copy without. Traditional institutions, including Nokmas and Dorbar Shnongs, also received hard copies. The Election Commission added 86 polling stations, pushing the state total to 3,637.

Residents have until September 4 to file claims or objections. Officials will dispose of these cases by October 3. The final rolls drop on October 7. Voters can check their status via the Voters’ Service Portal, the ECINET App, or by visiting local polling stations.
