Shillong: District Election Officers in West and East Garo Hills handed over draft electoral rolls to political parties on Wednesday. This move kicks off the Special Intensive Revision for the upcoming electoral cycle. October 1, 2026, serves as the official qualifying date for the revision.
In Tura, Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal delivered the rolls for eight Assembly constituencies. These include 46-Phulbari, 47-Rajabala, 48-Selsella, 50-North Tura, 51-South Tura, 52-Rangsakona, 56-Gambegre, and 57-Dalu. Representatives from the NPP, INC, BJP, AITC, UDP, GNC, and NCP attended the event. Aggarwal noted that the district reached full EPIC distribution and digital processing. He stated, "The publication of the draft electoral rolls as a key milestone in the ongoing revision exercise."
Public access matters. Officials are placing rolls at village headquarters to encourage voter verification. Any discrepancies, additions, or deletions need reporting to authorities. Aggarwal confirmed that Booth Level Officers performed thorough field verifications. Electors have one month to file claims and objections. Authorities then have a second month to process these filings. Aggrieved parties may appeal to the District Election Officer and then the Chief Electoral Officer.
Williamnagar held a similar session for the East Garo Hills district. District Election Officer R.P. Marak provided the rolls for three Assembly constituencies to the INC, AITC, and NPP. The public can view these documents at the District Election Officer's office, local Block Development Offices, and all polling stations. Three Electoral Registration Officers and five Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will manage the claims process. The window for filing objections runs from August 5 through September 4. Final disposal of these cases concludes October 3. The government will publish final electoral rolls on October 7.
