Guwahati: Government officials took over Somango Village on August 5. They brought new tools to local growers. The Central Silk Board and the District Sericulture Office from Williamnagar held an awareness drive for the Mera Resham Mera Abhimaan 2.0 initiative. They want more silk.

The training focused on scientific host plant management to boost leaf quality and cocoon numbers. Experts explained how to handle plantation setup, pruning, nutrient cycles, and pest control. These methods help stabilize the industry for the long haul.

Dharavath Saicharan, Scientist-B at the Silkworm Seed Production Centre in Kaliabari, led the event. He told the crowd that growers must switch to modern systems to stay afloat. He said, "Adopting scientific host plant management to improve the productivity and long-term sustainability of Muga sericulture" is vital for their future.

Charnenko Sangma, manager of the Williamnagar office, promised the state will keep backing Muga expansion. Senior Technical Assistant Nameswar Das gave hands-on field advice to the farmers. Sericulture Demonstrators from the district also joined the talks to answer technical questions during the interactive session. The event saw a massive turnout of locals looking to turn a better profit.
