Shillong: Meghalaya is bracing for trouble. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma ordered a coordinated state response on June 23 to counter potential climate chaos linked to El Nino. He met with department heads and weather experts to lock down plans for protecting the state's forests, water supply, and public health.
Predicting the exact damage remains impossible. Despite this, the state is betting on total preparedness to survive extreme weather. Officials are linking up local bodies, community leaders, and research institutions to map out risks and slash potential disruptions before they start.
The plan targets long-term stability. It aims to fortify the local agriculture sector and tighten disaster management protocols across the board. Sangma frames this effort as the start of a permanent shift in how the state handles environmental threats.
"Our goal is to build resilience, protect livelihoods, secure water resources and ensure that Meghalaya is ready for any challenge that may come our way," the Chief Minister said. The government will keep watching the clouds while working with experts to keep the state running.
