Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is readying the state for El Nino. Tuesday, he met with the India Meteorological Department to plot a defense against extreme weather. The government is hunting for risks. They plan to shield water supplies, crops, forests, and public health from upcoming climate shifts.

Sangma stressed the need for teamwork. He wants local bodies and state departments to build a solid response plan. The goal is to slash potential chaos caused by unpredictable storms or droughts. Preparing now keeps people safe.

"The government's focus is on protecting livelihoods, securing water resources and ensuring Meghalaya is prepared to respond effectively to any challenges arising from changing climatic conditions," Sangma said. This meeting starts a long push for better resilience. The state aims to harden its infrastructure against whatever the weather brings.
