Shillong: Jaintia Coal Owners, Miners, Suppliers and Workers Association members ended their indefinite hunger strike on Wednesday. Participants suffered from high blood pressure and blood sugar spikes. The fast stopped here. More protests are coming.

Association president Marshall S.B. Biam said many protesters lacked experience with fasting. He praised their dedication to the cause. This hunger strike served as the first phase of a wider fight for coal industry rights. The group now prepares to take their campaign to the streets.

Government officials recently met with the group. Chief Secretary invited representatives to discuss mining proposals and aid for families hit by industry restrictions. Four members currently draft a formal plan for the state government. JCOMSWA leaders visited the Deputy Commissioner office in East Jaintia Hills to push for progress. They wait for an update.

Biam signaled the group remains focused on their goals. He stated, "The association is preparing to intensify its campaign and may soon launch street demonstrations to press for the rights and interests of those dependent on the coal industry in the district." Further details will follow as the administration responds.
