Shillong: The Meghalaya Lok Bhavan in Shillong hosted a vibrant cultural program this Saturday to mark West Bengal Foundation Day. Held at the Durbar Hall, the event brought together government officials, representatives from paramilitary forces, and members of the Bengali community to honor the historical and cultural legacy of the neighboring state.

The celebration featured traditional folk dances and Bengali music, highlighted by a special performance from Shillong-born singer Amit Paul. Attendees also viewed presentations on the state’s contributions to education, agriculture, and digital innovation. H.C. Chaudhary, Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor of Meghalaya, welcomed the guests and emphasized the significance of the event in strengthening national unity.

West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi addressed the gathering through a virtual message. He discussed the enduring influence of spiritual leaders and national figures, including Sri Aurobindo and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Reflecting on the historical impact of Partition, Ravi paid tribute to the role played by Dr. Syama Prasad Mookherjee in securing the future of the state. He noted that the values of human dignity remain central to the nation, stating: "The poet’s work, including the composition of the national anthem Jana Gana Mana, remains a powerful symbol of India’s diversity, humanism, and shared national identity."
