Meghalaya Launches Motorcycle Rally to Combat Drug Abuse

Shillong: A group of 15 motorcyclists rode through the East Khasi Hills on Friday to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse. The awareness drive was organized by the Directorate of Social Welfare in partnership with the Drug Reduction, Elimination and Action Mission, also known as DREAM.

Director of Social Welfare Saloni Verma flagged off the rally at the U Soso Tham Auditorium. Before the participants departed, Verma emphasized the necessity of these public campaigns. She stated, "Such initiatives help educate people about the harmful consequences of drugs while strengthening collective efforts to address the issue."

The team of five women and ten men traveled through several locations including Laitkor, Sanmer, Mylliem, Laitlyngkot, and Kyrdemkhla before finishing in Mawkdok. Volunteers accompanied the riders to spread messages advocating for healthy living. This event serves as part of a larger state strategy to encourage community involvement and positive behavior changes.

At the final stop in Mawkdok, all participants took a formal pledge to support the ongoing fight against drug trafficking. The government continues to utilize these outreach programs to mobilize public support and combat the regional drug menace.
