Shillong: Meghalaya will host the International Conference on Women Farmers and Sustainable Organic Agriculture this June. The event runs from June 26 to 27. It brings together experts from 10 different countries to prepare for the 2026 United Nations Year of the Woman Farmer.

The state government is co-hosting the event with IFOAM-Organics Asia. The Cold Mountain Food Processing and Marketing Cooperative Society Ltd is coordinating the logistics. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Karen Mapusua will attend as guests of honor alongside various dignitaries.

The theme of the gathering is, "Women Farmers Leading Change Globally for Organic Food Systems." Speakers plan to push for better policy, market access, and climate resilience for those working the land. Despite their massive footprint in agriculture, women still hit walls regarding land rights, financing, and decision-making power.

Organizers want to show off successful projects and swap strategies to help women in the field. The state hopes the conference will cement its status as a leader in organic growth. The meeting wraps up with a joint declaration demanding more investment and support for women to ensure future food security.
