Shillong: Meghalaya’s Health Department picked up a SKOCH Award for its innovative use of artificial intelligence to catch breast cancer early. The group accepted the honor on June 20 at the 108th SKOCH Summit held in New Delhi.
Dr. Carolinda Iangrai and Tenneychell Khongrangjem stood on the stage to accept the prize on behalf of the state. The project, titled 'Transforming Breast Cancer Screening in Meghalaya Using Artificial Intelligence,' uses thermal scanning tools to spot potential issues. Technology changes everything. It brings life-saving diagnostics to women living in isolated corners of the state who previously lacked easy access to clinics.
The initiative does more than just scan patients. It weaves community outreach with formal referral networks to get women into treatment as fast as possible. Officials claim the recognition underscores the state’s drive to adopt high-tech fixes for medical gaps. This work makes sure that quality care reaches those left behind by traditional systems.
