Shillong: Meghalaya Governor C.H. Vijayashankar pledged 2 lakh annually from his office to the state branch of the Bharat Scouts and Guides. The funding aims to bolster youth development and keep daily operations running. Cash is tight for these programs. Vijayashankar made the announcement on November 7 at Lok Bhavan in Shillong during the organization's Foundation Day celebrations and Rajya Puraskar Rally 2026.
As Chief Patron, the Governor praised the movement for teaching kids leadership, self-reliance, and discipline. He pointed to the 2026 National Level Tribal Meet in Shillong as proof of the group's success in driving cultural unity. "Institutions engaged in youth development required adequate financial resources to sustain their activities," he said.
The event also marked the Diamond Jubilee of the movement. During the festivities, the Governor named the KJP Girls Higher Secondary School Guide Unit a Historical Unit. He released new flag stickers and handed out Rajya Puraskar certificates to 241 awardees. The total count included 77 Scouts, three Rovers, and 161 Guides. He challenged the recipients to keep building a peaceful and developed India.

Beyond the funding, the Governor wants the movement to push deeper into the state's rural and remote pockets. He urged leaders, teachers, and volunteers to rally together to build a generation driven by service and nation-building.
He also expanded the mission for the scouts. He told the members to start actively protecting the environment, living healthier lifestyles, and lending a hand to those in need. He specified that the tribal meet held back in June 2026 was the key event that sparked that cultural exchange.
