Shillong: The Meghalaya Early Childhood Development Mission took home the Gold SKOCH Award this week. Officials accepted the prize at the 108th SKOCH Summit Public Policy Forum in New Delhi. It marks a major victory for the state.

The win follows a brutal, multi-stage evaluation process. Judges looked at everything from project presentations to impact assessments. The process started back in March 2026. Experts tracked the mission against initiatives across the country.

Meghalaya’s success comes from a coordinated framework. It pulls in the Departments of Social Welfare, Health, Education, and Community and Rural Development. They also lean on faith-based groups and local frontline workers.

The jury praised the focus on responsive caregiving and nutrition. They specifically lauded how the mission connects childhood development with self-help groups. According to the assessment, the mission is "recognised for building a coordinated framework that brings together multiple departments and stakeholders to improve outcomes for young children."

A delegation attended the final ceremony. Chief Operating Officer Ronald Kynta, Programme Manager Nayna Warjri, and Civil Engineer Meaibor Hiam Roy M. Pdah represented the state. The award cements Meghalaya as a leader in innovative governance for children.
