Shillong: Meghalaya’s Early Childhood Development Mission just scored a Gold SKOCH Award. The state took home the top honor at the 108th SKOCH Summit Public Policy Forum in Delhi. Officials gathered at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry to accept the win.
The evaluation spanned months of scrutiny. Judges looked at project presentations, public votes, and expert reviews before picking a winner. The process began in March 2026. Experts praised the state for its statewide ecosystem that emphasizes community ownership, behavior change, responsive caregiving, nutrition, early learning, and multi-sectoral convergence.
The Department of Social Welfare led the charge as the nodal agency. They pulled together resources from the Health, Education, and Community and Rural Development departments. This work included partnerships with faith-based groups and frontline workers.
Key programs pushed the mission over the finish line. These included ECD integration into Self Help Groups and a unique Music and Movement Programme. The project team also kept a sharp eye on gender equality and social inclusion throughout the rollout. Ronald Kynta, the mission's Chief Operating Officer, presented the final case for the award. He was joined by colleagues Nayna Warjri and Meaibor Hiam Roy M Pdah.
