Meghalaya Cricket Association Fights High Court Stay on Meeting

Shillong: Meghalaya Cricket Association honorary secretary Rayonald Kharkamni is challenging a court order that blocked the group's Special General Meeting. Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew halted the July 3 gathering yesterday. He also suspended the results of a May 9 meeting.

The legal fight started when MCA president James P.K. Sangma filed a petition against his own association. Kharkamni remains defiant. He claims the meeting process followed the rulebook perfectly.

"We will contest this matter before the Honourable court and present our case," Kharkamni wrote to Sangma. The secretary plans to submit a detailed affidavit to the bench. He argues that over one-third of the members signed the requisition for the meeting.

The association wanted to tackle governance issues and appoint an ombudsman during the session. They also aimed to address recommendations from the Meghalaya State Commission for Women. Kharkamni pointed to the council's track record of developing local talent and managing BCCI tournaments. The court will hear the case again on July 21.
