Meghalaya Congress Denies Merger Talks with Trinamool

Shillong: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee shot down rumors of a merger with the Trinamool Congress on Thursday. MPCC secretary Manuel Badwar confirmed that no formal negotiations are happening between the two parties in the state. Local speculation grew after high-level meetings between national party leaders, but state officials maintain the ground remains unchanged.

Badwar said the state unit will toe the line set by the All India Congress Committee. If the national leadership decides on a common political course, Meghalaya will follow. National political shifts could force a change in the state, especially as secular parties look for ways to unite against the BJP.

Smaller outfits are currently reassessing their futures. Badwar noted that the TMC is in a similar position as it looks toward the future. Regarding the party's strategy, Badwar stated, "They have an opportunity to redefine their political direction."

Final authority rests with central leadership. Opposition politics in the state might face a shakeup, but for now, the Congress keeps its own lane.
