Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma cracked down on power grid performance Tuesday. He hauled officials from the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited and their private partner, SAI Computers, into a meeting to address widespread billing errors and service failures. People want reliable power. They want fair bills. Sangma made it clear that service delivery is the government's top priority.
The Chief Minister ordered an immediate overhaul of the grid. He directed crews to swap out broken meters and rusted transformers while speeding up infrastructure upgrades. Officials must now strengthen their public outreach programs and fix consumer grievances before they pile up.
Sangma also pivoted to the PM Surya Ghar Scheme to push renewable energy. The state aims to put solar panels on more rooftops and integrate battery storage across government buildings and homes. The government wants to make solar power cheap and easy to get. "Our focus is on building a comprehensive renewable energy roadmap that enhances energy security, promotes sustainability and ensures long-term benefits for our people," Sangma said.
