Meghalaya BJP Rejects Claims It Will Skip Shillong Bypoll

Shillong: Rumors hit the streets suggesting the BJP might sit out the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election. Party leaders moved fast to kill the noise. They confirmed the party intends to fight for the seat despite whispers about a weak bench.

State BJP president Rikman G. Momin shut down the chatter. He insisted that anyone spreading these theories acts like they have more authority than the central leadership. "If there is any official development concerning the party’s affairs, it would be communicated through the authorised leadership," Momin said.

The party has not picked a name yet. They wait for the Election Commission to drop the official poll schedule before making a move. Party officials plan to follow strict rules for the selection process.

General secretary Wankitbok Pohshna took aim at the anonymous sources fueling the gossip. He claimed half-baked information is hitting the public domain. Nine people have already applied for the ticket. The Central Parliamentary Board holds the final say on who runs.
