Shillong: The Meghalaya government asked the Supreme Court to cancel the bail of Sonam Raghuvanshi. She stands accused of murdering her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their 2025 honeymoon. The state filed the appeal after the Meghalaya High Court let her walk free on June 29.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta brought the case before Justices M.M. Sundresh and Sheel Nagu. He demanded an urgent hearing. Mehta argued the High Court made a mistake by focusing on a clerical slip. He noted that the state only failed to list the correct legal provision because of a simple typo, not a lack of evidence.

The Solicitor General warned of a flight risk. "Mehta also expressed concern that there was a possibility of the accused absconding if allowed to remain on bail." The Supreme Court agreed to hear the state's arguments this Friday.

The couple vanished near Sohra on May 23, 2025. Search teams found Raja Raghuvanshi’s body in a deep gorge days later on June 2. Meghalaya police claim Sonam Raghuvanshi hired hitmen to kill her spouse for money. The investigation remains active.
