Shillong: Border dispute negotiations between Meghalaya and Assam are set to resume once the Assam government completes its upcoming cabinet expansion. Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong confirmed the delay, noting that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma requested the pause to allow newly appointed ministers to participate in the joint inspection process.

The two states are working to resolve remaining points of contention along their shared boundary. Tynsong indicated that the Meghalaya government intends to continue these diplomatic efforts while simultaneously pushing for long-standing state priorities at the federal level.

Regarding the implementation of the Inner Line Permit and the inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, Tynsong said the state remains committed to these goals. He stated, "These issues could be raised with Union Home Minister Amit Shah if an opportunity arises during his visit." Both demands have previously received formal support through resolutions passed by the Meghalaya Assembly.
