Shillong: Social activist Greneth M. Sangma has filed a formal complaint with the Bishop of Tura, alleging that the principal of Ascension Secondary School is intimidating those seeking justice for an assaulted student. The conflict began after parents reported that teacher Aloysius M. Sangma punched a minor, Bretwil N. Marak. The family subsequently registered an FIR at the Gasuapara Police Station on June 12 and notified the Child Welfare Committee on June 14.

In a letter dated June 18, Sangma claimed that Father Jaquish B. Sangma, the school principal, failed to investigate the teacher’s conduct properly. Instead of addressing the assault, Sangma alleged the principal responded to his advocacy with threats. According to the complaint, the principal warned that "action will be taken" against those working "in front and behind the screen."

The activist argued that the principal’s remarks were intended to silence supporters of the student and suggested that school leadership is prioritizing the defense of the accused teacher over the safety of the child. Sangma described the school's overall response as hostile and unprofessional, warning that such behavior risks damaging the reputation of Church-run educational institutions.

The complaint calls for an immediate, independent inquiry into both the alleged corporal punishment and the principal's behavior. Sangma urged the Diocese of Tura to intervene to ensure child safety and restore accountability within the school.
