Imphal: The acclaimed Manipuri film Boong reached a new milestone after being featured as a subject in the 2026 UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination. The inclusion highlights the growing cultural significance and international reach of the movie following its historic win at the British Academy Film Awards earlier this year.
UPSC examiners tested candidates on their knowledge of the film by asking them to verify details regarding its director and its achievement as the first Indian production to win a BAFTA in the Children and Family Film category. The question required students to identify that the film was directed by debutant filmmaker Lakshmipriya Devi and acknowledge its win over major international titles such as Zootopia 2 and Lilo and Stitch.
The film tells the emotional story of a nine-year-old boy. Alongside a friend, he travels near the India-Myanmar border on a coming-of-age journey to search for his missing father. This recognition by the commission serves as a testament to the film's lasting impact on the Indian cinematic landscape.
