Imphal: The National People’s Women Front (NPWF) of Manipur is demanding urgent government action on two fronts. They want better security for the Litan Police Station and a full investigation into the torching of six homes at Kanto Sabal. NPWF State President Nonibala Sapam submitted formal requests to Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and the Chief Minister.
On July 11, arsonists burned six abandoned houses belonging to displaced Meitei families near Leimakhong. The NPWF visited the site and met victims at the Khurkhul Mandop Relief Camp. Camp coordinator R.K. Sanahal noted the families face deep emotional distress. The Front wants a time-bound investigation, compensation, and security to help these displaced people eventually return home.
Regarding the Litan Police Station, the NPWF reports that officers face constant danger. Violence is high. The region has seen repeated armed confrontations and property destruction. As Nonibala Sapam stated, "A recent field assessment conducted by representatives of the NPP, including a visit to Litan and its surrounding areas, revealed the significant challenges confronting law enforcement agencies operating in this conflict-affected region."
The NPWF demands five specific upgrades for the Litan station. They want a perimeter wall and better surveillance. They also seek more personnel, improved vehicles, communication gear, and better living quarters for staff. The organization insists that a stronger, well-staffed station is the only way to build public trust. They sent copies of these demands to the Chief Advisor, the Director General of Police, and the Ukhrul Superintendent of Police.
