Manipur Security Forces Arrest Three Militants in Multiple Raids

Imphal: Security forces captured three militants in Manipur this month during a series of intense counter-insurgency raids. Troops seized firearms and cash while hunting for insurgents across Bishnupur and Thoubal districts.

On July 16, officers caught Khundrakpam Boynao Meitei, a 25-year-old suspected member of the Manipur Peoples Defence Force. They found him in the Ningthoukhong Loktak Project area in Bishnupur. Police recovered a .32 calibre pistol, a magazine, five live rounds, and Rs 1 lakh in cash. On that same day, soldiers moved into Thoubal. They arrested 24-year-old Tourangbam David Singh, an active member of the Kangleipak Communist Party People's War Group, at his home in Wangjing Bazar Lamding Laishram Leikai.

The crackdown continued on July 21. Forces targeted the Lilong Alia Lamkhai area in Thoubal. They apprehended S/S Captain Lourembam Kumar Meitei, a 43-year-old PREPAK Progressive cadre. Known also as Kanto, Naobi, or Abung, the suspect lived in Imphal West district at Haobam Marak Lourem Leikai. Troops seized a .32 calibre pistol and a magazine during the arrest.

Officials confirmed all three men are in custody. Authorities continue their push to recover illegal arms under the Disarm for Peace initiative. According to officials, the operation was carried out on July 21 in the Lilong Alia Lamkhai area under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district, leading to the apprehension of the militant. Investigators are now working to map out the networks and activities of the men held.
