Imphal: Manipur Director General of Police Rajiv Singh announced that authorities have identified 5,406 sensitive, violent, and communal social media posts since ethnic violence erupted in the state in June 2023. Working alongside the state IT department and the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, police successfully removed approximately 3,200 of these posts and blocked 187 pages and accounts.
The announcement coincided with a police modernization initiative event at the 1st Manipur Rifles Ground, where Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh flagged off 477 newly procured vehicles. Officials confirmed that 54 percent of these vehicles will be deployed in hill districts, while the remainder will serve valley districts and technical police units.
To support long-term institutional strengthening, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs approved 196.61 crore rupees in October 2025 to bolster forensic facilities, security infrastructure, and communication systems. The police force has also increased its focus on specialized training, recently signing a memorandum of understanding with the National Security Guard in June 2025.
Addressing the state's security challenges, DGP Singh noted that a dedicated anti-extortion cell has resulted in the arrest of over 1,000 individuals across the region. However, the police chief expressed concern regarding public protests and road blockades that interfere with law enforcement operations, urging citizens to cooperate with security forces to ensure peace and development.
