Imphal: Manipur Director General of Police Mukesh Singh has issued a firm warning to those carrying illegal weapons, confirming that security forces will respond with self-defense if fired upon. Speaking in Churachandpur after his first official visit to the region, Singh stated that proactive operations will remain a priority until peace is fully restored throughout the state.

During a press briefing, the police chief addressed the ongoing issue of weaponry stolen during recent ethnic violence. He reported that authorities have successfully recovered approximately 70 percent of the looted firearms. Emphasizing the state's zero-tolerance policy, Singh noted, "Anyone with arms who tries to take laws into their own hands will be dealt with very strictly. Those with weapons would be arrested. Those who try to fire at us will be dealt with in self-defence."

Beyond physical security, the DGP highlighted the dangers of digital unrest. He stated that the police have established a monitoring cell to track social media activity and punish those responsible for circulating rumors that incite inter-community tension. According to the state police, these efforts are part of a broader strategy to curb instability.

Throughout his visit, Singh coordinated with local police, the Assam Rifles, and various Central Armed Police Forces. He commended these agencies for their recent success in seizing narcotics and apprehending armed agitators. The leadership plans to continue these joint operations to ensure long-term order across the districts of Churachandpur and Bishnupur.
