Imphal: Five representatives from Manipur Assembly constituencies are pushing the state government to keep District Supply Officer N. Jayanta Singh at his post in Churachandpur. They sent a formal request to the Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution on July 22, 2026. The move aims to protect the local Public Distribution System from administrative turmoil.
These representatives claim Jayanta Singh has worked with stakeholders since May 3, 2023, to keep essential goods moving. They insist that essential commodity distribution remains efficient despite local instability. The officials argue that his removal would derail the ongoing e-KYC drive and the rollout of the new electronic Point of Sale system.
The group warned the Commissioner against bringing in a replacement now. They stated, "transferring the officer at this stage and posting a new official could create administrative difficulties, disrupt ongoing programmes and cause unnecessary hardship to beneficiaries dependent on the PDS."
The letter included signatures from Khambiakmuan of Thanlon, Thangchinkhup Haokip of Henglep, Jimmy Vaiphei of Churachandpur, N. Munluo of Saikot, and M. John Zou of Singhat. They claim most residents support the officer. A copy of the letter went to the Director of CAF and PD for the state.
