Imphal: The Manipur government has placed Bishnupur district under indefinite prohibitory orders as of 7 PM Saturday. The District Magistrate issued the directive following a security assessment, citing a volatile law and order situation that necessitates stricter public oversight.

The order bans public gatherings of five or more people and prohibits the possession of weapons including firearms, sticks, clubs, and explosives. Any rallies, processions, or road obstructions require explicit written permission from the Magistrate. Those who violate these mandates face prosecution under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

This decision follows a visit to the Bishnupur District Police Headquarters by Director General of Police Mukesh Singh. During his visit, the DGP met with senior officers and commanders from the Army and Central Armed Police Forces to discuss crime trends and operational challenges. He specifically called for increased anti-insurgency and drug enforcement efforts while prioritizing the safe return of displaced citizens. Reflecting on the ongoing operational requirements, the DGP emphasized the need to strengthen security in fringe areas, noting the "importance of intensified counter-insurgency and anti-narcotics operations."

Exemptions to the restrictive measures apply to security personnel, government officials, and essential workers. This list includes medical staff, power and water department employees, educators, media personnel, and representatives from financial and judicial institutions.
