Imphal: Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam promised on Thursday that authorities will arrest the perpetrators responsible for the deaths of six hostages. The bodies were recovered recently, following a search operation that began when the Naga individuals were abducted on May 13.
Konthoujam visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences mortuary to meet with the victims' grieving families. He stated the government views this abduction and killing as an unprecedented act against humanity, vowing that all involved will be brought to justice.
The minister noted that the discovery of the bodies occurred one day after the Naga community released 14 Kuki detainees. He praised this act, describing the development as a result of the "kind-hearted" gesture of the community, which helped ease regional tensions.
While acknowledging existing security lapses, the minister announced that two CoBRA battalions have been deployed to strengthen state operations. He also commended the newly appointed Director General of Police for sustaining the search efforts.
Konthoujam appealed to the public for cooperation in restoring peace. He emphasized that government security measures alone are insufficient to prevent further violence without active support from the citizens of Manipur.
