Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited Kanto Sabal village in the Imphal West district on July 15. Six abandoned homes belonging to Meitei families burned down recently in the area. Kanto Sabal sits inside the Sekmai Assembly constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Castes. The Chief Minister inspected reconstruction efforts at the site.
Security remains thin. Local groups delivered a formal memorandum to the Chief Minister. The Kanto Sabal Village Development Committee, local Meira Paibis, and community clubs signed the document. They demanded better protection for vulnerable zones and safe, unrestricted travel. Singh promised to review these concerns alongside security agencies and state departments. He must act fast.
The Chief Minister wants order. He spent his visit pushing for unity and mutual trust between communities. He claimed that schools, roads, and hospitals require a stable environment to function. Peace is the only path forward. The administration listed the restoration of normalcy as its primary goal. Singh addressed the state of the highways specifically. The government "is making every possible effort to ensure free movement for all communities along the national highways passing through the State," he said.
MLA H. Dingo Singh accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit. The pair toured the Leimakhong area to gauge the situation. Singh later shared on X that the five demands in the village memorandum would be handled with seriousness. He reiterated a broad promise to protect the public. The state government seeks to balance development with law and order.
