Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh launched the state-level Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan on Sunday, August 2. The event took place at the Manipur University auditorium. Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the nationwide movement via a virtual address from New Delhi. He told the gathered youth, "Achieving the goal of a developed India required physically and mentally healthy youth who remain free from destructive habits such as drug abuse."
The NSS Cell of Manipur University organized the program alongside the State NSS Cell under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. During his speech, Khemchand Singh linked the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 to a disciplined, drug-free generation. He noted that he consciously avoided narcotics in his own life to focus on public service. He encouraged students to follow that path to become responsible citizens.
The Chief Minister expressed alarm over reports from non-governmental organizations regarding organized networks currently supplying drugs to the youth. He promised a tougher crackdown on trafficking. He also connected the state's economic future to the Act East Policy, noting that Manipur serves as India's gateway to Southeast Asia. The government plans to finish railway connectivity to Imphal by December 2028, boosting trade toward Moreh and beyond. He insisted that these economic gains rely entirely on a healthy workforce.
Khemchand Singh addressed the state's recent history of violence, which has spanned the last three years. He appealed for peace between all communities and pledged government support for justice and social reconciliation. Manipur University Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh challenged the students to act as local ambassadors for the cause. The event concluded with all attendees taking a formal pledge to reject intoxicants. Registrar Prof. M. Premjit Singh, faculty, and NSS volunteers were also in attendance.
