Manipur BJP Leaders Honor Martyrs of 2001 Great June Uprising

Imphal: BJP MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha Singh paid tribute to 18 martyrs on the 25th anniversary of the Great June Uprising, also observed as Unity Day. These individuals lost their lives during 2001 protests against the inclusion of the phrase without territorial limit in a ceasefire agreement between the Indian government and the NSCN (I-M).

During the commemorative event, Ibomcha stressed that collective strength is essential when the territorial integrity of Manipur faces threats. He argued that patriotism remains the highest priority for citizens. As he honored those who died in the uprising, he stated, "Any person who dies or makes sacrifices for the state is the luckiest one and remains immortal. If we truly love our state, we should be ready to sacrifice for the state or the country."

MLA Sapam Nishikanta also attended the ceremony to honor the victims. He used the occasion to advocate for harmony and mutual trust between communities. Nishikanta noted that promoting peace and understanding is a necessary step toward restoring normalcy and long-term stability throughout the state.
