Imphal: Leaders from the Tangkhul Naga Aze Longphang South and the Tangkhul Naga Zingsho Longphang East gathered in Lungphu on Wednesday for a consultative meeting. Held under the theme Khangarum Pheikar, or Walking in Unison, the event brought together village chiefs, women leaders, and civil society representatives from across the Kamjong district.

The assembly aimed to fortify bonds within the Tangkhul community and promote broader solidarity among Naga people. Participants focused on navigating the ongoing situation in Manipur by coordinating efforts to foster peace and ensure public welfare. Ashang Kasar, convener of the Native People’s Committee Manipur, served as a primary resource person, highlighting the essential role of cooperation among the state’s indigenous groups.

This meeting follows a June 16 program in Chandel where community leaders discussed regional security and demographic concerns. During that earlier event, Kasar advocated for a unified stance against external pressures and called for legislative action to protect local interests. He stated, "The state is facing demographic changes due to external aggression and the continued presence of Kuki refugees who settled in the state during the 1960s."

Speakers at the Lungphu event emphasized that collective action is vital for addressing modern societal challenges. The organizers expressed a commitment to continued dialogue as a means of addressing emerging issues and maintaining stability across the region.
