Imphal: A coalition of Kuki civil society organizations in Manipur's Henglep subdivision has accused security forces of killing a local villager during an operation on June 16. The groups identified the deceased as Lemminsang Haokip, a resident of Songkong village who reportedly stayed home due to health issues while others worked in the fields.

According to the joint statement, Haokip fled his home following a drone strike nearby and was subsequently shot by security personnel. The organizations reported that the forces removed his body from the scene, which had not been returned to the family as of the date of the report. Local villagers later found blood-stained clothing and footwear near the residence.

The coalition, representing several local associations including the Henglep Sub-Division Chief's Association and the Kuki Students' Organization, warned against characterizing the victim as a militant. They are calling for an independent investigation into the operation and public disclosure of the circumstances surrounding the death.

Expressing deep concern over the incident, the group stated that it was a "possible case requiring independent investigation" that demands accountability from the officers involved. As of now, security forces have not issued an official response to these allegations.
