Agartala: Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has pushed back against current Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s prediction that the CPI(M) will secure zero seats in the 2028 Assembly elections. Sarkar emphasized that the party’s dedication to public welfare remains independent of its legislative strength.

Sarkar challenged the notion that the party’s electoral future is a foregone conclusion. He argued that the results depend entirely on whether the democratic process is allowed to function without interference. Addressing the potential for a total loss, he said, "if people’s voting rights are taken away, then any outcome becomes possible, including the CPI(M) ending up with no seats."

The veteran leader insisted that the party would not abandon its mission even if its representation in the Assembly continues to decline. He stated that the CPI(M) will persist in leading movements focused on the livelihoods and constitutional rights of the common people. According to Sarkar, opposition parties across India are currently facing significant pressure as democratic institutions face growing influence from external forces.

To counter these challenges, Sarkar called for an increase in organized democratic movements. He concluded that the party will remain steadfast in its efforts to protect the rights of citizens and uphold democratic values, regardless of future election results.
