Lotha Students’ Union Detains Six Over Permit Violations

Kohima: The Lotha Students’ Union apprehended six individuals in Wokha on May 21 for failing to possess valid Inner Line Permits. Three of these individuals worked as local salespersons, while the other three were traveling tobacco vendors who allegedly entered the district without authorization.

LSU president S. Zubenthung Ngullie criticized the current state of permit enforcement. He argued that officials should require permits before individuals enter Nagaland, rather than allowing them to apply for documentation after arrival. He called on the government to improve monitoring at district check gates and ensure visitors leave once their permits expire.

The union handed the three traveling vendors and their seized goods over to the district administration. The three local salespersons were given a two-day window to secure their permits or face expulsion from the district. The group plans to petition the Deputy Commissioner for more rigorous surveillance across the region.

Beyond permit compliance, the union addressed concerns regarding public health. Leadership warned local business owners that selling tobacco products within 100 meters of educational institutions is prohibited. They stated that any future violations of these rules will result in legal action and deportation for those lacking proper documentation.
