Kohima: The Liju Federation of Wozhuro Block hosted its third Annual General Meeting on June 12 at the Public Ground in Wozhuro Range. Members gathered to discuss the federation's progress under the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission, focusing on rural empowerment and the expansion of community-based enterprises.
Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Obendangba, praised the dedication of the self-help groups and advised them to register under Cooperative Societies to unlock greater long-term support. He emphasized the need for smarter business practices to help local goods compete in larger markets. Obendangba stated, "while local entrepreneurs have shown promising progress, there remains a need to adopt proper pricing strategies and sustainable revenue models."
The official urged producers to adopt smaller, more affordable packaging and improve preservation techniques to boost product shelf life. He suggested that focusing on quality and flavor adaptation will help these groups move beyond the local Wokha market to reach consumers across the state and beyond.
Beneficiaries shared success stories during the event, demonstrating the financial impact of the mission. T. Kimonglo Lotha described how an initial revolving fund of Rs 17,000 allowed her group to start a wholesale business, eventually leading to a successful ration shop. Meanwhile, Bank Sakhi Khomotchu used financial support to launch a rubber plantation enterprise, eventually expanding her property holdings.
The meeting concluded with an awards ceremony recognizing top performers. Chanden SHG was named Best Performing SHG, while Hayichan VLO received the Best Performing VLO award. Individual honors were given to Oreno Patton, Ebibeni Lotha, and Thungrhoni Yanthan for their contributions as community resource persons.
