KVK Zunheboto Launches Kadaknath Poultry Project to Empower Rural Women

Kohima: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Zunheboto, operating under Nagaland University, launched a new initiative to support rural women through Kadaknath poultry farming. The project, sponsored by the NABARD Farmers' Support Programme Fund, held its official input distribution event on June 12 in VK Town, Akuluto.

Forty-five selected women beneficiaries from Sastami, Maromi, and Ajiquami villages received essential supplies, including Kadaknath chicks, poultry feed, medicines, drinkers, and feeders. The project aims to improve household nutrition and provide a sustainable income source for local families by introducing this specific poultry breed to the district for the first time.

Akuluto Additional Deputy Commissioner Tiayanger Jamir served as the chief guest for the distribution programme. He encouraged the participants to master modern farming techniques and treat the project as a serious business venture. Jamir noted that the breed is highly valued for its health benefits, stating, "The breed commands a premium market price due to its low-fat, high-protein meat and antioxidant properties."

NABARD District Development Manager Poji emphasized that the project serves as a key intervention for rural economic development. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, the project head at KVK Zunheboto, confirmed that beneficiaries would receive ongoing technical support to ensure the scientific management of their flocks. Community leaders and local beneficiaries expressed their commitment to the initiative, marking a collaborative effort between government departments and local villagers to enhance agricultural productivity.
