Kuki Rights Group Demands Manipur Government End Highway Blockade

Imphal: The Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust (KOHUR) blasted the Manipur government on July 20 for ignoring a crippling economic blockade. The United Naga Council allegedly set up the road closures on routes serving Kuki-Zo communities. The blockade stopped fuel, medicine, and food from reaching those in need. Prices are spiking fast. Patients needing care are trapped, while children and the elderly suffer the most.

KOHUR condemned the "continued silence and inaction" of the State Home Minister. They argue that blocking highways violates Article 21 of the Constitution. The group pointed to Supreme Court rulings that demand clear public roads. They also alleged the state shows institutional bias by failing to act as quickly as it has for other groups.

The organization wants the Home Minister to release a formal plan to fix the supply routes. They demand the state clear all highways immediately without any bias. The Manipur government claimed it is working to keep order and move goods, but the state has not issued a direct response to these new allegations. The United Naga Council remained silent.
