Imphal: The Working Committee of Kuki Civil Society Organisations in Ukhrul issued a final warning Wednesday. They demand an end to the harassment of vehicles carrying essential goods to Kuki-Zo areas. Drivers face regular surveillance, interception, and physical attacks. The group claims these incidents occur despite police presence at the Litan, Yaingangpokpi, and Lamlai stations. Authorities must act before July 24.
Law enforcement is under fire. The committee questions the neutrality of police after receiving reports of singled-out transporters. They argue the state government offers security escorts to two major communities but ignores the Kuki-Zo population. This alleged bias is discriminatory. The committee says: "We will no longer accept what it described as official inaction."
Broader supply lines remain crippled. Economic blockades on National Highway-2 and National Highway-37 have strangled the flow of medicine, food, and fuel. Naga civil society groups and Foothills Naga committees enforce these blockades. They cite the alleged killing of Naga civilians by Kuki armed cadres and territorial disputes as their primary motive. These blockades have left the Kangpokpi district isolated.
Kuki leadership from Ukhrul and Kangpokpi will meet on July 24 to review the crisis. They plan to decide on further collective action if the district administrations of Ukhrul, Imphal East, and Kangpokpi fail to secure supply routes. The groups continue to trade accusations of using economic warfare as a pressure tactic in a volatile state.
