Imphal: The Kuki Christian Leaders' Forum (KCLF) has voiced profound sorrow and condemnation following the recent deaths of six Naga hostages and a targeted attack in Kamjong district. The violence in Kultuh village claimed the lives of the Baptist Church's Head Deacon and Youth Chairman, marking another escalation in the ethnic conflict that has gripped Manipur since May 2023.
Reflecting on the deteriorating security situation, the forum stated, "The ongoing violence has witnessed many brutal and barbaric acts of killings." They urged all communities to reject the cycle of retaliation, emphasizing that vengeance only deepens the suffering of civilians and destabilizes the region.
The KCLF remains focused on restoring harmony through compassion and forgiveness. They pointed to past peace initiatives, including those led by the late Rev. V. Sitlhou, as vital reminders of the risks involved in seeking reconciliation. Despite previous setbacks and the assassination of local leaders, the group maintains that trust can be rebuilt through collective dialogue.
By highlighting both the loss of hostages and the recent shooting of villager Haogin Lhouvum in Kangpokpi district, the forum is calling for an immediate end to the unrest. They are urging civil society members and religious leaders across Manipur to prioritize unity over ethnic divisions to achieve a permanent resolution to the crisis.
