Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh attended the 11th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog in New Delhi this week to outline his state’s progress in restoring peace and development. Addressing the forum, which focused on the theme of Inclusive Human Development for Viksit Bharat@2047, the Chief Minister credited the collaborative efforts of the State and Central governments for improving the local law and order situation.
Regarding the humanitarian crisis, the Chief Minister noted that 11,000 displaced families have already been resettled under the state's rehabilitation package. He emphasized that the government is working to finish the process for remaining families while securing additional support from the Centre for rural housing. Regarding the successful return of residents to their homes in Jiribam, he stated, "Jiribam had emerged as an example of community cooperation after members of Meitei, Kuki, Paite and Hmar communities came together peacefully."
The Chief Minister also addressed long-term security and infrastructure goals. He reported that 50 kilometres of fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border is complete, with work underway on an additional 80 kilometres to combat illegal trafficking. To further drive economic growth, he requested the expansion of national infrastructure projects and improved connectivity to solidify Manipur's position as a gateway to East Asia.
Highlighting social progress, the Chief Minister reported that Manipur has achieved the lowest infant mortality rate in India. He also pointed to advancements in education and employment, noting that local youths are securing international job placements in Japan, the United States, and across the Middle East. He concluded by reiterating his government's dedication to stability and urged continued partnership with the NITI Aayog to achieve broader national development goals.
