Imphal: Families of six Naga men abducted on May 13 have identified their remains following an intensive search operation in Manipur. The process took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences under the supervision of police, medical experts, and the National Investigation Agency, which has now taken over the case.

Inspector General of Police Worngam Ningshen confirmed that the investigation remains active and that local authorities are working closely with federal investigators. The search effort involved a coordinated operation by Manipur police, the CRPF, Assam Rifles, and specialized forensic teams.

Relatives expressed profound anguish over the state of the remains, which were recovered from the water. Paisho Thiumai, the brother of Rev Dr Manu Thiumai, stated that the conditions were so severe that only one individual could be clearly identified. Describing the scene, Thiumai said, "The rest of the bodies were totally mutilated. They were butchered and beheaded. We couldn't see any intact joints. This is horrific. We are deeply angry and broken by this entire inhuman act."

Government officials and community leaders visited the mortuary to offer their condolences. Former chief minister N Biren Singh urged the public to pursue dialogue over violence, noting that he expects recent administrative changes within the police department to help restore order. The families, however, voiced frustration over the delayed recovery and are demanding that the government deliver justice for the victims.
