Kuda Village Implements New Waste Fee to Fund Independent Dumping Site

Kohima: The Kuda Village Council (KVC) is introducing a one-time waste management fee for all local households and businesses. The council reached this decision during a June 10 meeting to address the urgent need for a new dumping site after the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) recently banned external waste disposal.

Kuda village officials purchased land for the new facility, located 25 kilometers away, entirely through community funds without government support. The council is currently developing the site to include an approach road, perimeter fencing, electricity, water supply, and housing for a caretaker. The initiative aims to resolve the unhygienic conditions seen across parts of Dimapur and maintain local sanitation.

Under the new structure, registered households will pay Rs 2,000, while churches are charged Rs 3,000. Schools and nurseries face a base fee of Rs 4,000, and the floating population will contribute Rs 500 per kitchen. The Kuda Waste Management Committee will oversee additional charges for other waste groups.

The council urged residents to support the project, stating, "The objective is to keep Kuda village clean through active community participation and improved waste management." Officials expect the site to become operational soon to ensure proper disposal for the 2026 and 2027 periods.
