KSU Expels Migrant Workers from Shillong Over Missing ID

Shillong: Members of the Khasi Students’ Union Shillong Mihngi Circle kicked a group of migrant workers out of the 4th Furlong area on Wednesday. The union acted after finding the workers sleeping on the roadside. It was a direct confrontation.

The group visited the Polo-Nongmensong locality on the night of June 30. They acted on reports of unknown people in the neighborhood. When pressed, the workers said they came to Meghalaya looking for jobs. They could not produce proof of Indian citizenship or Elector’s Photo Identity Cards. The union decided they had to go.

The union stated, "The absence of valid identification raised suspicions regarding their presence in the state, prompting members to order them to leave." Without papers, the students claimed they could not verify who these people were or why they were in the city. No independent party has confirmed these claims. Local police and district officials remain silent on the matter.
